Subject:UTMB STS -Auscultation Self Teaching System

Overview

Cardionics is pleased to announce an Agreement with UTMB (University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas) for the manufacturing and marketing of the UTMB STS -Auscultation Self Teaching System.

Now available for immediate delivery, the STS consists of four computer lessons, an auscultation evaluation program, a student sound reproducer, student pulse reproducer and Student Text Work Book.  These lessons can be placed on a network then combined with the sound reproducer and pulse reproducer driven from the network computer.  Students listen to the program.  When directed, they place their own stethoscope on the sound reproducer and palpate the pulse reproducer simultaneously.  Students follow the text workbook as a study guide to auscultation.  This system was so successful at UTMB that the senior class of medical students raised funds from their own pockets for further development of this system.

Developed by UTMB cardiologist and former NASA astronaut, William Thornton, M.D., the STS along with the CardioSim Digital Heart Sound Simulator, SAM, the Student Auscultation Manikin, SimulScope Bedside Auscultation System and Auditorium Infrared Sound System comprise a complete line of teaching simulators for auscultation.

These systems focus on group instruction, self-instruction, bedside instruction, evaluation and testing.  Using Cardionics systems, students will achieve a high level of proficiency in auscultation, often called the key to physical diagnosis.
