“A Revolution in Auscultation is taking place - Right before your Ears!”

Overview

Steth2
The 190 year old stethoscope has just been reinvented.  You won’t believe your ears! That’s a bold statement.  Can we back it up?  Read on.

Welcome to the E-Scope -  an electronic stethoscope with great sound.

Add the Pocket Monitor – a software suite that can enhance screening and diagnostic accuracy at the patient bedside.

"I find this scope to be outstanding. It accepts a wide dynamic range of frequencies, being especially useful in detection of low frequency sounds such as third and fourth heart sounds. It has good noise rejection and requires very little adjustment to bring in sounds across the entire sound spectrum."
Morton Tavel, M.D., FACC, Indianapolis.

With the E-Scope Electronic Stethoscope and Pocket Monitor Analysis System (for PDA or PC) you will be able to:

Help Differentiate an innocent murmur from the murmur of aortic stenosis,

Estimate the pressure gradient across the aortic valve,

Identify one instance of a murmur and let pocketMONITOR identify all the others in your recording.   On the PC, this feature allows you to average the murmur for a more accurate estimate of the murmur properties.

Record and play back a sound - with the E-Scope/pocketMONITOR combination.  pocketMONITOR also plays back at half speed without loss in tonality - a very helpful feature for patients with fast heart rates or closely timed splits or gallops.

Compare the sound of the patient at hand with an installed database of heart sounds that can be recalled instantly,

Hearing Impaired?  Cardionics has helped thousands of medical professionals with the E-Scope  for ITE (in-the ear) or BTE (behind the ear) type hearing aids.

Cochlear implants? Use the E-Scope/pocketMONITOR with a prescription from your audiologist.

Paramedic?  The E-Scope EMS was designed with you in mind.  Hear soft breath sounds in a noisy  ambulance.

One-on-One Teaching? With the E-Scope and a stethophone, you can teach one-on-one.    The  student and instructor hear the same sound simultaneously.   Add the pocketMONITOR and you can see the sound, record and play back or analyze.

Group teaching?  At the bedside, use the E-Scope, SimulScope/pocketMONITOR system and not only will the students hear the sound simultaneously with wireless Heartman Infrared Headphones, but they  can see, compare and analyze the sounds on your laptop or PDA.

Neonatal monitoring? Use the E-Scope with Specialist Pediatic Bell and speaker to listen to the heart sound cadence in the NICU.

Telemedicine?  The E-Scope can be used with the new Sigma Telemedicine System for home patient auscultation or clinic to clinic auscultation.

Veterinary use?  Now the animal’s owner can hear heart and breath sounds simultaneously with the veterinarian.

Clinical support?  Call us for a reprint of the recent article in Circulation by Morton Tavel, M.D., FACC.  We‘ll be glad to send you a copy.

Would Dr. Rene Lanneac, the 1816 inventor of the stethoscope, be impressed?  We think he would.  We think you will be too!  Cardionics has been designing and manufacturing heart and lung sounds simulators, manikins for over 35 years and the E-Scope has been on the market longer than any electronic stethoscope.

New Self-Teaching System for Heart Sounds Announced
Date: January 1, 2007
Title: For Immediate Release
Subject:UTMB STS -Auscultation Self Teaching System

Overview

Cardionics is pleased to announce an Agreement with UTMB (University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas) for the manufacturing and marketing of the UTMB STS -Auscultation Self Teaching System.

Now available for immediate delivery, the STS consists of four computer lessons, an auscultation evaluation program, a student sound reproducer, student pulse reproducer and Student Text Work Book.  These lessons can be placed on a network then combined with the sound reproducer and pulse reproducer driven from the network computer.  Students listen to the program.  When directed, they place their own stethoscope on the sound reproducer and palpate the pulse reproducer simultaneously.  Students follow the text workbook as a study guide to auscultation.  This system was so successful at UTMB that the senior class of medical students raised funds from their own pockets for further development of this system.

Developed by UTMB cardiologist and former NASA astronaut, William Thornton, M.D., the STS along with the CardioSim Digital Heart Sound Simulator, SAM, the Student Auscultation Manikin, SimulScope Bedside Auscultation System and Auditorium Infrared Sound System comprise a complete line of teaching simulators for auscultation.

These systems focus on group instruction, self-instruction, bedside instruction, evaluation and testing.  Using Cardionics systems, students will achieve a high level of proficiency in auscultation, often called the key to physical diagnosis.

For further information, please contact Keith Johnson at Cardionics, 1-800-364-5901.

Title: For Immediate Release
Subject: Announcing the Cardionics E-Scope Electronics Stethoscope and pocketMONITOR

Overview

The pocketMONITOR is a software program for display, recording and playback of physiologic sounds. The software is installed on a PDA (personal digital assistant) for ease of use at the bedside. . The pocketMONITOR will display a phonocardiogram while simultaneously listening. It also records and plays back heart, breath, Korotkoff or bowel sounds during routine patient rounds or in the office. The pocketMONITOR is designed to be used with the E-Scope electronic stethoscope.

The E-Scope and pocketMONITOR provide a portable, effective, low cost means to display, record, playback heart and lung sounds. pocketMONITOR not only provides the physician with auscultation, but with additional clinical information as well. The E-Scope/pocketMONITOR offers the following unique benefits:

  • Provides an objective record as a complement to the subjective information from auscultation; particularly in identification of heart sounds and murmurs and lung sounds such as pneumonia, asthma and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

  • Offers mobile, convenient and user-friendly testing for both patient and practitioner.
  • Heart and lung sound waveforms can be visually reviewed, recorded and playback back at will.

  • Sounds can be recorded and shared by email.

  • Sounds can be transferred to the CardioSim Digital Heart Sound Simulator for teaching purposes or to a standard PC for storage, if desired.
  • Sound Display and Recording integrated with Cardionics E-Scope II

  • The handheld pocketMONITOR consists of software installed on a Compaq IPAQ PDA, modified to accept input from the Cardionics E-Scope electronic stethoscope

Lightweight, Mobile Hand-held PDA (personal digital assistant)

Total weight of the PDA is about 14 oz. allowing it to be worn on a belt or carried in a pocket. pocketMONITOR displays and/or records all heart, lung or bowel sounds captured during auscultation. The sounds then can be replayed while viewing the waveforms simultaneously.

visual display and analysis

Automated capture, display and playback of sounds

The Pocket Monitor/E-Scope allows direct visual and simultaneous audible detection of the normal and abnormal sounds. For heart sounds, a phonocardiogram is displayed in real time and can be recorded at will. For lung sounds, not only can sounds be displayed, recorded and played back, each auscultation position can be examined for crackles, wheezes, and irregular patterns of inspiration and expiration. Although the Pocket Monitor will store up to 100 patients on the PDA, using Microsoft’s Activesync, (included with each Compaq Ipaq), the patient’s heart or lung sounds can be uploaded to a PC for permanent storage or comparison with prior recordings
