The SimulScope is an electronic stethoscope system for auscultation in a telemedicine setting. It consists of small, portable, infrared transmitter with low frequency stethoscope that is taken to the bedside or telemedicine clinic. Each listener wears a HeartMan Infrared Headphone that allows everyone to hear the patient simultaneously. This is an exclusive feature with the SimulScope.
The SimulScope has a series of eight discrete filters that permit the accentuation or attenuation of eight different frequency bands (also an exclusive feature). This allows the physician to accentuate a grade 1 murmur, a faint AI blow or any other sound. He/she can attenuate or accentuate other sounds or murmurs for purposes of identificaton or teaching. Sounds can be recorded and played back through the SimulScope, if desired.
The SimulScope has been used successfully with the Tandberg, Polycom, VTEL and Life Size Teleconferencing systems.
Auscultation with ECG (Catalog no. 718-7006)
Another model of the SimulScope is the SimulScope "R". This instrument is the same as the SimulScope except that it includes a 3-lead ECG for timing the onset of systole. With each QRS complex that is detected, a red light flashes on the face of the SimulScope permitting physicians to determine the onset of systole with a heart rate in excess of 110 beats per minute. There is no other telemedicine instrument currently manufactured in the US that will present both sounds and ECG simultaneously.
Both versions can be used with the pocketMONITOR Software or the Sigma Telemed System to display a simultaneous phonocardiogram and ECG.
